Maureen Tepedino, The Fisherman, Acrylic on Canvas, 72 X 36

By Henry Long
Los Angeles, CA (The Hollywood Times) 4/16/18 – The Upper West hosts an opening reception for artist Maureen Tepedino on Sunday April 22nd, 2018, from 4-7pm. The artist will be in attendance. A fan of the restaurant, Tepedino said she is looking forward to seeing her work exhibited on the walls of the upscale restaurant. “I was first introduced to Upper West Restaurant last fall, by a dear friend and was immediately impressed with the ambiance, food and service.”
Tepedino’s love of art started when she was just seven years old. Inspired by her surroundings (Jamaica, W.I), she painted vibrant sunsets and serene subjects. Maureen’s connection to art led her to becoming an interior designer. After studying at Interior Design and Art, and Santa Monica City College, she implemented her love of color into her projects with an exceptional flair.Tepedino also has a background in fashion. For over twenty years, she owned and operated Maureen’s on Main Street, a successful fashion and clothing boutique in Santa Monica.
Like most artists Tepedino visits museums to find inspiration. Vincent Van Gough, and Jackson Pollock are at the top of her list, but she was recently moved by some emerging artists. “I was recently exposed to a body of work by a Local School in the Downtown area and felt that the student’s had great potential to become household names in the Art Industry.”
As an artist she is constantly inspired by her daily life. She describes the impetus to creating one of her works in the show…“Coming from a large family, when I painted Family Gathering, I had so many wonderful memories of all the times we were together as a family, e.g. around the dining table sharing meals, taking walks, and on Sundays where my parents would take us to the Beach and after, my Dad would show us the progress of the Buildings he was working on!”
Another painting entitled The Fisherman was inspired by her childhood. “While living in Toronto, CA as a teenager, I went fishing many times and later on enjoyed taking my two sons along for the experience. Painting “The Fisherman” brought back many happy memories.”
Her paintings are sold nationally by interior designers, art consultants, architects and contractors for high-end residential and corporate projects. She also specializes in corporate art by creating original pieces designed for Commercial spaces.”
The opening artist reception for “Imagination: Art that Speaks to You” will be held on April 22nd, from 4:00-7:00pm. The Upper West Restaurant is located at 3321 Pico Boulevard, Santa Monica 90405; 4:00pm – 7:00 pm.

New Group Exhibition Opens at Blue 7 Gallery March 18th

March 18th, New Group Exhibition Opens at Blue 7 Gallery

By: Libby Lancaster

The Hollywood Times (Santa Monica, CA) 3/15/2018 –  “Randy and I were just brain storming,” said Lucius Peterson, gallery director.

“Ordinary into Extraordinary,” a group exhibition opens at Blue 7 Gallery on Sunday March 18th from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Robert Ball Owner

Owned by Randy Ball, the longtime gallery has evolved into a nurturing collective, hosting shows about ten times a year.

Lucius Peterson Director

“We were intrigued by how artists are inspired by seemingly everyday items – old shoes, a box.” Both Randy Ball (owner) and Lucius Peterson (director) are also artists and will be exhibiting work in the group show as well. In fact, the two collaborated in the production of the “Rose” photo.

Peterson explained, “It is two photographs woven together to produce a single image. I did the photography and Randy did the weaving.” Peterson went on to say both Ball and himself were fond of Lisa Wald’s cow paintings that would be part of the group show. The artist will be exhibiting works that were inspired by a recent visit to animal sanctuary.

“The way Lisa paints her animals provides the viewer with a connection to the subject as if you know the cow,” added Peterson.

“Randy & Lucius are great people to work with,” said artist Lisa Wald, who has been part of the collective since it began. “They are supportive of artists & foster a collaborative environment.”

Although she paints many different types of subjects, she will be exhibiting her animal inspired works for this exhibition.  She continued, “Showing at Blue 7 Gallery has been a fantastic way to share my art with the public in a nurturing environment. It’s also very exciting to see my pieces on a gallery wall. I’m always impressed by the other artists’ work & their points of view.”

Special guest artist Ray Ford will be included in the group exhibition as well. A talented wood sculptor, Ford takes pride in the fact that each of his works of art is completely original.

The wood sculpture of Ray Ford

He is a dedicated artist still at 90 years old. He continues to create work almost every day and exhibits in local galleries. His work has been shown at Ivan Gallery, the Santa Monica Art Studios, Fab-Gallery and more.

Like most artists, he has worked in all types of mediums. Wood carving was his first love and he has stayed true to it all these years, continuing to produce incredible one-of-a-kind artworks. He has done quite a bit of drawing and painting as well. His work is figurative in style. He explained, when modern art became all the rage, he was not a fan of abstract art. But…he added “I learned to appreciate it.”

Vicki Fisher-Lerer, Encaustic by the Sea, Encaustic paint, 12 x 24

Artist Vicki Fisher-Lerer has been part of the collective since early on. She will be exhibiting her encaustic paintings. The word encaustic originates from the Greek word enkaustikos, which means to burn in. The artist explained, “Each layer you paint needs to be fused with a heat gun or a torch. Encaustic paintings are perhaps the most durable form of painting, some surviving over 2000 years without cracking, flaking or fading. An example is the Faiyum mummy portraits in Egypt.”

On Sunday March 18th, Blue 7 Gallery holds a reception for “Ordinary into Extraordinary.” The group exhibition is open to the public through April 21st at Blue 7 Gallery, 3129 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica, CA 90405.

A Grand Allegory:  Albert Camus’ THE STATE OF SIEGE Plays in LA!

A Grand Allegory:  Albert Camus’ THE STATE OF SIEGE Plays in LA!

By: Dr. Laura Wilhelm

Los Angeles, California (The Hollywood Times) 10/28/2017 – “My stated purpose was to make our murmuring stages resound with the loud cries that have the power to subdue or to free multitudes of men,” Camus said about this rarely staged work of genius.

Right in time for the fright-filled Halloween season, THE STATE OF SIEGE reminds us that fear of death can actually make mortal life seem all the more precious.

THE STATE OF SIEGE (L’État de siège) is the fourth play by French absurdist philosopher and author Albert Camus (1913-1960), who won the 1957 Nobel Prize in Literature for profoundly influential ruminations on resistance, rebellion, and death just such as these.

Albert Camus

THE STATE OF SIEGE is written in three acts presenting the arrival of plague to the supposedly fortified Spanish city of Cádiz and the subsequent creation of a totalitarian regime through the manipulation of fear.

The original sense of the title is closer to “state of emergency.”  The mythic play’s main antagonists are Nada, the nihilistic town drunkard, and La Peste–The Plague.

THE STATE OF SIEGE, which shares a common background with Camus’ gripping 1947 novel THE PLAGUE, was first staged in October 1948 by Jean-Louis Barrault.  The play has never made much of an impression upon critics, although Camus himself was quite pleased with it.  Nevertheless, THE STATE OF SIEGE has remained almost constantly in print in French and in a 1958 English translation by Stuart Gilbert.

Royce Hall UCLA

This poetic and prescient 85-minute masterwork has been rediscovered by the internationally renowned
Parisian company Théâtre de la Ville, who staged it in all of its intensity sans intermissions on the evenings of Thursday, October 26th and Friday, October 27th at UCLA’s Center for the Art of Performance (CAP) at Royce Hall.

Emmanuel Demarcy-Mota

THE STATE OF SIEGE was directed by leading avant-garde French master Emmanuel Demarcy-Mota and performed in French with English supertitles.

The roles of Nada and La Peste were enacted by Philippe Demarle and Serge Maggiani.

Philippe Demarle

Serge Maggiani

When a comet appears in the sky over Cádiz, Nada warns the townspeople that it is an evil omen.  “If this is a sign, it must have meaning!”

The local government forbids everyone to say that they have even seen the comet.  “Nothing is happening, nothing will happen.”  But even this small city cannot be forced into silence and submission for long!

Comets have been viewed throughout human history as portents of horror, as in the brilliant 2016 Broadway musical “Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812” starring Josh Groban that was based upon part of Russian author Leo Tolstoy’s (1828-1910) epic 1869 novel WAR AND PEACE.  The comet in THE STATE OF SIEGE appeared in all its fiery glory on screens set around the stage amidst eerie tableaus created by the cast arrayed in chic dark-hued costumes of the period.

Camus wrote in his 1951 book-length essay “The Rebel,” which traces both the metaphysical and historical development of revolutions in Western European societies, that his whole life was devoted to opposing the philosophy of nihilism while still delving deeply into individual freedom.  The townspeople’s rejection of oppression AND normative justice in THE STATE OF SIEGE follows from this line of thought.

In 1949, just one year after THE STATE OF SIEGE was launched, Camus founded the Group for International Liaisons to “denounce two ideologies found in both the USSR and the USA.”  Obviously, THE STATE OF SIEGE can be read as a dizzying modern metaphor during the age of Trump and Putin.

Irony of ironies, the USA has in fact been in a perpetual state of emergency ever since the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in 2001.  Now many believe the terror is coming mainly from the top!

So what role can art play in the face of paranoia and great peril?  Can the human spirit still apprehend the beauty of life in the face of imminent annihilation?

These existential questions and many others are raised by THE STATE OF SIEGE.  Some hope may be found in the example of Diego and his lover Victoria, whose very name suggests triumph.  The classic Camus revolutionary seeks to fight for justice without abandoning transcendental values.

Albert Camus believed that a writer must be a servant to truth and always be ready to act even in the face of uncertainty and self-doubt.  The clarity with which he illuminated problems of human conscience still commands universal respect as his play THE STATE OF SIEGE is performed worldwide by and for concerned global citizens.

Resistance to evil is essential whatever the outcome!  Sometimes the attempt alone must satisfy us.

Mila Kunis – Marie Claire Cover – Dress, boots: Louis Vuitton (Photo by Kai Z Feng)

As an actress, she’s making the comedic movies she wants (A Bad Moms Christmas in theaters November 1st), and as a producer, she’s elevating women’s roles on-screen. Building a career on her own terms is just how Mila Kunis rolls.

Inside the issue, Kunis is candid on the hurdle of making women-centric content in Hollywood, parenting, how she defines power vs. success, and more.

On the hurdle of making women-centric content in Hollywood: “I do sometimes come back from work like, ‘What the f*ck?’ But anger is good. It motivates us to strive to be better.”

From self-proclaimed “spiraler” to Zen master: “I overthink. I’m super-dramatic. Something not that bad, in my mind, becomes a catastrophe. I go from zero to a hundred. It’s a problem.”

On what motherhood has taught her: “What motherhood shows you is how selfless you can get. I’m ragged tired. Who cares? My kids are healthy, I’m happy.’”

Dress, hat, earrings, necklace, bracelets & boots: Dior – Photo Kai Z Feng

On what she wants to teach her daughter: “What I want my daughter to learn from me is the value of hard work.”

On power versus success: “The real question is: Does power equal success? I mean, look at Trump. Trump is powerful. It doesn’t mean he’s successful, right?”

On today’s political landscape and her hope for the future: “I have hope for the future. None of this is permanent, this is a phase…and we will come out of it as a country.”

About Mila Kunis

Milena Markovna “Mila” Kunis, born August 14, 1983, is an American actress. In 1991, at the age of seven, she moved from Ukraine to Los Angeles with her family. After being enrolled in acting classes as an after-school activity, she was soon discovered by an agent. She appeared in several television series and commercials, before acquiring her first significant role prior to her 15th birthday, playing Jackie Burkhart on the television series That ’70s Show. Since 1999, she has voiced Meg Griffin on the animated series Family Guy.

Her breakout film role came in 2008, playing Rachel in the romantic comedy-drama Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Her other films include the neo-noir action film Max Payne (2008), the post-apocalyptic action film The Book of Eli (2010), the romantic comedy Friends with Benefits (2011), the comedy Ted (2012), the fantasy Oz the Great and Powerful (2013) as the Wicked Witch of the West, and the psychological thriller-horror Black Swan (2010), in which her performance gained her worldwide accolades, including the Premio Marcello Mastroianni for Best Young Actor or Actress, and nominations for the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress and Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role.

Kunis began dating her former That ’70s Show co-star Ashton Kutcher in April 2012, and they became engaged in February 2014. She gave birth to their daughter Wyatt Isabelle in October 2014. Kunis and Kutcher married during the first weekend of July 2015 in Oak Glen, California, and their son Dimitri Portwood Kutcher was born in November 2016.  (Wikipedia)

Los Angeles Burning Man Decompression Art & Music Festival

This Saturday, October 14th, the Los Angeles Burning Man Decompression Art & Music Festival is back in the newly renovated LA State Historic Park in downtown LA.

This is the 13th year for the extravagant festival which was originally created as a way for the Burning Man community to “decompress” coming back from the desert event. It has also become a place where newcomers can take an inside look into a Burner experience.

The public can expect an unprecedented event. One of the guidelines of Burning Man is inclusiveness to everyone….so newcomers are welcomed. Participating artists will show unconventional and inventive art installations.

Producer and longtime Burner, Esquire Jauchem said, “After three years of waiting for the wonderful new DTLA Historic Park to be completed, LA Burning Man is thrilled to bring the Decom Art & Music Festival back to fiery, fantastic life.”

Photo by T-Bone; Destiny Lounge 2017 (featuring the art of Dave Taylor and Debi Cable; 3D (Man in the glowing UV suit on the couch is Dave Taylor!)

The public will enjoy four stages. One is called the Ignite Fire Stage and will feature fire performances. The second one is the Charlie the Unicorn stage. where the famed Diva Danielle will be spinning along with Todd Spero, Jacob Kalski, Fleetwood Smack, Erik Nelson, Somekindaweirdo, and Philip Evans.

The third stage is called the Art Car Bus Stop, and finally, Subtract Music runs the fourth stage featuring DJs, Anton Tumas, Brad Moontribe, Deltavox, Isaiah Martin, Joe P., Loboman, Massio, Patricio, Synchronometry, and Zach Walker.

Marialyce Pedersen will be hosting the Merry Mad Tea Party at this year’s Decom event. Her nickname is Merry M’Alyce in Burnerland. Serving hot and cold teas and engaging people is part of the fun. “I like the smallness and intimacy,” said Pedersen. I like that people can actually meet and interact and have meaningful exchanges. I like that people who don’t have time, money, or the inclination to travel all the way to Black Rock City can attend Decom and get a little annual taste of the thing.” This will be the Merry Mad Tea Party’s 5th appearance at LA Decom. It debuted at the 2012 event.

Dave Taylor will collaborate with Debi Cable 3D to create Destiny Lounge 3D.Taylor said he loves how these events bring out such creative energy in people. “We can be as quirky or weird as we want, create characters, alter egos, whatever! Discovering the crazy things others have come up with is a completely magical experience, and I was hooked from my first Burn!”

In addition to artistic camps in which the public can participate, art cars and mutant vehicles will also be on view at the festival. Vehicles have been transformed into large animals, caterpillars, and alien type cars. Some are huge sculptures…each with its own special feature, such as fire, music, etc.  Jauchem added, “The LA Burning Man Decom Art & Music Festival is truly like a mini Burning Man (without the dust!).”

MARVELous Art to Take Place in Beverly Hills on October 19th

An Inspiration Amongst Women: Wendy Hammers

By Meg Taylor

Los Angeles, CA (The Hollywood Times) 9/18/17 – “If you knew this was the last day of your life, would you spend it worrying about whether or not your stomach was flat? Of course not, but you never really know when it’s your last day, do you?” These lines of dialogue are from the one-woman show “Ripe” written and starred in by the lovely Wendy Hammers. It’s incredibly profound; we know that our time is limited, yet we don’t spend our time acting like it. Hammers’ personal mission statement as a woman and as an artist is to help women celebrate their bodies and their lives and to really understand that we only have one life and one body and you should appreciate it while you can, at any age that you are, at any weight that you are, and any body that you’re living in. This is a main theme in Hammers’ production, “Ripe”. “Ripe” was written as a valentine to one of Wendy’s dear friends, the hilarious writer and comedian, Judy Toll, who passed away from cancer. Toll was an original member of The Groundlings and a writer on Sex and The City. Hammers’ wrote the play because she loved and missed her friend; she wanted to keep her memory alive. The play is about celebrating life; Hammers’ expressed that “so many young women spend time worrying about their body and worried that it’s not right; and when you see somebody that’s really sick and they don’t have their body anymore, you realize how silly all that is.” Continue reading “An Inspiration Amongst Women: Wendy Hammers”

BARBARA CORCORAN – Barbara Corcoran’s credits include straight D’s in high school and college and 20 jobs by the time she turned 23. It was her next job that would make her one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the country: she borrowed $1,000 and quit her job as a waitress to start a tiny real estate company in New York City. Over the next 25 years, Barbara would parlay that $1,000 loan into a $5 billion real estate business, building the largest and best-known brand in the business.

Corcoran is the author of the bestseller “Shark Tales: How I Turned $1,000 into a Billion Dollar Business!”  Corcoran is a motivational and inspirational speaker. She is a frequent small business and real estate contributor on every major network. She has been an investor/Shark for the past nine seasons on ABC’s three-time Emmy award winning show, “Shark Tank.”  Follow Barbara @BarbaraCorcoran – Follow Keo @keodancer

DEBBIE GIBSON – For 30 years, Debbie Gibson has proven she’s an entertainer of immeasurable talent. From singer, songwriter and musician to actress and dancer, she embodies what it truly means to be an entertainer. A music prodigy, Gibson exploded on the Billboard Pop Charts at the tender age of 16 with the self-penned “Only in My Dreams.” The “Original Pop Princess” quickly became the youngest artist ever to write, produce and perform a No. 1 hit song, “Foolish Beat,” and entered the Guinness Book of World Records. To date, she is still the youngest female to hold that record. She has sold more than 16 million albums worldwide, performed for British Royalty and hosted “The American Music Awards,” produced by friend and legend Dick Clark.

After conquering the pop world with three consecutive albums and world tours, she set her sights on the theater and starred in 17 musicals in 17 years. Gibson made her mark in the Broadway production of “Les Miserables” as Eponine. She broke box office records in the London West End production of “Grease” as Sandy. She then took the stage in the U.S. Broadway tours of “Grease” as Rizzo and “Funny Girl” as Fanny Brice. She also wowed critics as Belle in Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast,” Gypsy Rose Lee in “Gypsy,” Cinderella in the national production of “Cinderella,” with Eartha Kitt, Velma Kelly in “Chicago,” and Sally Bowles in the Broadway revival of “Cabaret,” with Neil Patrick Harris. Gibson bridged the gap between pop music and Broadway with her one-woman show, “Pop Goes Broadway.” She currently has two original Broadway musicals in the works, one with Jimmy Van Patten entitled “Flunkytown” and the other entitled “Skirts” as composer and lyricist with Hilary Carlip and Katie Ford.  To fill her passion of mentoring and fostering young performers and songwriters, she also created Debbie Gibson’s Electric Youth, a series of performing arts camps and music boot camps.  Gibson made her debut in the world of orchestration for Dr. Rutledge’s documentary “3 Billion and Counting,” about Malaria prevention in third world countries. She collaborated on the score and the powerful closing credits song, “Rise,” which was shortlisted for an Academy Award nomination. She also composed two original songs for “Cirque Dreams Symphony,” which toured the U.S.  In 2012 Gibson raised more than $50,000 for Children International on “The Celebrity Apprentice” and made a cameo in the film “Rock of Ages.” In 2011 she starred with Tiffany in the SyFy hit “Mega Python vs. Gatoroid,” which led to a joint sold out tour as well as a performance on GMA’s Summer Concert Series. She also appeared in Katy Perry’s hit music video for “Last Friday Night (TGIF).” In 2014 she starred as a celebrity judge on ABC’s “Sing Your Face Off,” and joined an esteemed list of musical performers as a 2014 inductee of the Long Island Music Hall of Fame. She starred in the 2015 original movie “The Music in Me,” featuring a new, original song, “Promises.” She wrote a new song, “Angel,” for the debut album of Nickelodeon star Isabela Moner, co-wrote and is featured on Big Black Delta’s electro-pop song “RCVR,” and was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from Rockers on Broadway in 2015. In 2016 Gibson created, executive produced and starred in Hallmark Channel’s “Summer of Dreams,” which featured her new, original song, “Wonderland,” and a new acoustic version of her self-penned debut, hit single, “Only in My Dreams.”  Follow Debbie @DebbieGibson  – Follow Alan @Dance10Alan

DEREK FISHER – Derek Fisher spent his entire pre-NBA life in Little Rock, Arkansas. His work ethic and determination were evident even from a young age, but basketball was always what drove him. A stand-out guard in high school, he starred for Parkview Arts and Science Magnet High. Even as a teenager, his leadership qualities were on display for all those who encountered him.

In 1996 he was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers and went on to play more than 18 seasons in the NBA, a majority with the Lakers, with whom he won 5 NBA Championships. Fisher is the all-time NBA record holder in playoff games played. While playing for the Lakers, he hit a buzzer beater with 0.4 second left in game 5 of the 2004 Western Conference Semifinals against the San Antonio Spurs, which the NBA lists as the 18th-greatest playoff moment of all time.

Fisher also served as president of the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA), while playing.  In 2014 he was hired by the New York Knicks to be the team’s head coach and became one of the only players to get a head coaching job in the NBA directly from playing. In 2016 he moved back to Los Angeles and began to work professionally as a broadcaster, making appearances on TNT, NBA TV and Spectrum SportsNet. Fisher made multiple appearances on TNT’s “Inside the NBA” and was on TNT’s new “Player’s Only” coverage, where former NBA players provided color commentary on games. He worked alongside with Shaquille O’Neal, Grant Hill and Brent Barry, among others. At the start of the 2016-17 NBA season, Fisher joined Spectrum SportsNet as an in-studio analyst for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Fisher’s passion for impacting the lives of young people motivated him to create a camp experience for children and teens of all skill levels. In 2009 he started the Derek Fisher Basketball Academy, which is dedicated and focused on developing the basketball, leadership and life skills of each camper.  He currently resides in Los Angeles with his family. He and his twin brother, Jonathan, host multiple top-rated HGTV series, including the Emmy-nominated ”Property Brothers,” ”Brother vs. Brother” and “Property Brothers at Home,” and their shows are watched by millions of fans in over 150 countries. A New York Times bestselling author and one of People’s “Sexiest Men Alive,” Scott is also a bona fide social media influencer with over three million followers across his social platforms.

Born and raised in Canada, Scott’s passion for all things entrepreneurial began at age seven when he and Jonathan started their first business. By 18, they were buying and flipping homes, and by their mid-20s they had a thriving real estate, design and renovation business with hundreds of clients.  Scott’s love of acting began during elementary school. He then started doing improv, sketch and standup comedy while in high school. Later, he booked roles in popular TV series such as “Smallville” and “Breaker High.” Eventually, he and Jonathan were approached to host a home renovation show called “My Dream Home,” which later became “Property Brothers.”

In addition to his television and social media success, Scott is one half of a rising global lifestyle brand, which includes multiple extensions into music, media and retail. He and Jonathan established “Scott Brothers Entertainment,” which produces award winning and engaging content in all genres for TV, film and digital platforms. The brothers expanded their brand with the creation of “Scott Living,” a designer collection of indoor and outdoor furniture, décor and bedding.  In 2015 the Scott brothers wrote and recorded two original tracks, “Hold On” and “Let the Night Shine In,” with music producers Victoria Shaw and Chad Carlson. “Hold On” hit the Billboard Hot Country charts within the first month of its release. In January 2017 they put their own country spin on Flo Rida’s wildly popular single “My House” with 100% of the single’s proceeds being donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Last year, he and Jonathan released their first book, “Dream Home: The Property Brothers’ Ultimate Guide to Finding & Fixing Your Perfect House.” It was both a New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller. Scott will release a memoir, co-authored with brother Jonathan, entitled “It Takes Two: Our Story,” on September 5, 2017.  Outside of his career endeavors, Scott serves as a global ambassador for World Vision, working to improve child protection domestically and abroad. JORDAN FISHER – 2016 was a breakout year for multi-talented artist Jordan Fisher, whose talent clearly knows no boundaries, from TV to music to film and, most recently, Broadway. In January, Fisher’s take as Doody in FOX’s Emmy-winning broadcast of “Grease: LIVE” earned him critical acclaim and was deemed the show’s breakout star by MTV and People Magazine. That spring, he released his first single, “All About Us,” which was produced by Oak Felder (Alessia Cara, Arianna Grande, Rihanna) and melded influences of pop/soul/R&B. The song was the #2 most added song and a top 30 hit at pop radio. In August, Fisher released his self-titled EP, which debuted #18 on the Billboard Heatseeker album chart.

After performing on The Today Show, the ESPY’s Red Carpet Special and opening for Alicia Keys at the Apple Music Festival, Fisher was tagged to perform the end title credit to Disney’s hit animated feature film “Moana” with award winning songwriter/producer Lin-Manual Miranda. Fisher, who has been called out by Miranda as “super-talented,” saw a lifelong dream of performing on Broadway come to fruition when he joined the cast of Miranda’s uber-hit “Hamilton,” where he took on the dual roles of John Laurens and Philip Hamilton.

When ABC was curating the music for “When We Rise,” an eight-hour miniseries event with music guiding the four and a half decade storyline, they looked no further than Fisher to cover the 70’s classic, “I’d Love to Change the World.” The song opened the two-hour premiere, directed by Gus Van Sant.

The underlying thread to all Fisher’s success across the board is music. He’s not just a multi-talented performer but also a storyteller. His influences are diverse and can be traced back to his ays growing up in a football town outside of Birmingham, Alabama, where he cultivated his tastes by listening to everything from Luther Vandross to Metallica while simultaneous developing his acting skills at the Birmingham-based Red Mountain Theatre Company.

With a bright future in front of him, 2017 is sure to be another banner year as Fisher readies his debut full-length album. This fall he will release his new single “MESS” with Hollywood Records.  Follow Jordan @Jordan_Fisher – Follow Lindsay @lindsayarnold

NIKKI BELLA – If there’s a barrier to be broken or an accolade to be earned, Nikki Bella has done it, and done it with style. Bella is a philanthropist, empowered woman, executive producer, YouTuber, motivational speaker and longest reigning Divas Champion.  A self-admitted ‘tomboy’ with a feminine side, Bella originally planned to play professional soccer until a leg injury ended her career. From there, she followed her twin sister Brie’s lead into WWE. Unsuccessful in seizing spots in the 2006 WWE Raw Diva Search, The Bellas caught the eyes of execs and soon landed in FCW. Training for the competition they’d soon crush, she and her sibling made their way onto the main roster in 2008 and turned heads whenever they set foot inside the ring. But don’t be fooled — Bella is more than just a pretty face. With a dash of ‘twin magic,’ she and her sister stirred up WWE, culminating with a Divas title reign apiece in 2011 and 2012. But after a brief sabbatical from WWE, the sisters began an astonishing reinvention, with Nikki cementing herself as the division’s mean-girl powerhouse and earning a Divas title reign that lasted a record-setting 301 days. Now, as a pivotal member of the SmackDown LIVE roster, Bella continues to test the limits of competition in a complete and totally fearless fashion.

Bella is the star of E!’s hit reality shows “Total Bellas” and “Total Divas.” She and Brie are continuing to grow their brand with their birdie bee apparel line and Belle Radici wine.  Follow Nikki @BellaTwins – Follow Artem @artemchigvintse

SASHA PIETERSE – Film and television star Sasha Pieterse is best known for her lead role on Freeform’s “Pretty Little Liars,” which wrapped its seventh and final season earlier this year. Despite being only 12 years old when she landed the role on what would go on to become one of the network’s most popular and successful shows, she held her own as the youngest regular cast member with already years of professional experience beneath her belt.

The Johannesburg native immigrated to America with her family for greater opportunities. The daughter of professional acrobatic dancers, Pieterse became accustomed to the rigors of a career in entertainment at an early age. When she was just four and a half years old, she met with a Los Angeles agent who quickly signed her, and she has been acting and modeling ever since.

Pieterse got her start in television in 2002 at the age of six, starring in the WB comedy series “Family Affair,” a remake of the late 1960s hit, as Buffy, opposite Gary Cole. She was awarded with a Young Artist’s Award for her work on the series. She appeared in the hit series “Heroes” and guest starred in “House M.D.” She also starred in the telefilm “Claire,” opposite Valerie Bertinelli, and appeared in the Disney Channel Original Movie, “Geek Charming.”

Pieterse’s first major film role was as the Ice Princess in Robert Rodriguez’s “The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl 3D,” with Taylor Lautner and George Lopez. In 2007 she starred in “The Air I Breathe,” alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar. She also appeared in “Good Luck Chuck,” “X-Men: First Class” and the critically acclaimed film “Inherent Vice,” directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and starring opposite Reese Witherspoon, Joaquin Phoenix and Martin Short.  In addition to her successful acting career, Pieterse has launched her singing career releasing four singles with co-writer and producer, Dan Franklin.  Follow Sasha @SashaaPieterse – Follow Gleb @Gleb_Savchenko

TERRELL OWENS – Philanthropist, entrepreneur, fitness expert, model, motivational speaker, humanitarian, loving father and the NFL’s 6-Time Pro Bowler, Terrell Eldorado Owens is a man on a mission. His extraordinary skills on the gridiron and elite athleticism raised the bar for Wide Receivers in the league. Owens is credited with being one of the most exciting and electrifying players to ever play the game, with 1078 Receptions, 15,935 yards and 153 touchdowns during the span of his 15 year career.

Owens was born in Alexander City, AL, where he attended Benjamin Russell High School. There he excelled in several sports including football, basketball, baseball and track. After being recruited by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC), Owens made a name for himself as an explosive receiver, earning first team All-Southern Conference honors and setting a school record for catching a pass 11 consecutive games.

Owens was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the third round of the 1996 NFL draft, spending eight seasons with the team. He made his mark in the league by amassing a highlight reel of spectacular plays and performances. This includes a game-winning touchdown against the Green Bay Packers in a 1998 wild-card playoff games that was dubbed “The Catch II”; a record breaking day of December 17, 2000 when he surpassed the 50 year old mark for the single-game reception total; and his role in leading the 49ers to the second greatest comeback in NFL playoff history, which occurred against the New York Giants in 2002.

In 2004 Owens joined the Philadelphia Eagles, making an immediate impact on the team, averaging one touchdown per game. This helped the Eagles to win 13 of its first 14 games, paving the way to Super Bowl XXXIX. Despite a late season injury that doctors had projected would take weeks to heal, Owens started the game and had nine receptions and 122 yards in a disappointing loss to the New England Patriots.  Owens went on to play for the Dallas Cowboys, embarking on another storied legacy. In his first season with the team, he led the league with 13 regular season touchdowns, and this despite a serious tendon injury to his finger. While doctors recommended season ending surgery, Owens elected to wait until the end of the season to repair the damage. In 2007 he set a Dallas Cowboys record with 15 touchdown receptions and helped lead the team to the NFC East divisional title for the first time since 1988. He also amassed 69 catches for 1,052 yards and 10 touchdowns in his last season for the Dallas Cowboys. Owens entered his 14th NFL season with the Buffalo Bills. It was in this season that he became only the sixth player to record 1,000 career catches. He also added stints with the Cincinnati Bengals and the Seattle Seahawks to his resume.

Owens has garnered countless awards and accolades for his work on and off the field, including six Pro Bowl appearances, five-time Associated Press All-Pro, Recorded Five Seasons with 13 or more touchdowns, and the first to score a touchdown in seven straight “Monday Night Football” games. On September 15, 2008 in yet another remarkable Monday Night Game, Owens moved into second place on the NFL’s all-time career touchdown list.  Owens’ work on the field is only mirrored by his accomplishments off the field, including partnering with the Alzheimer’s Association, which is near and dear to his heart. His beloved grandmother Alice succumbed to the disease three years ago. He also testified before Congress to raise awareness about the disease.  Owens is also a respected and best-selling author, penning a children’s book, “Little T Learns to Share,” and a fitness book, “T.O.’s Finding Fitness.” His latest endeavor, the “What TO Do” Global Campaign, is an initiative aimed at empowering and motivating youth around the world through speaking, workshops and with the launch of an inspirational clothing line for men, women and children.  Follow Terrell @terrellowens – Follow Cheryl @CherylBurke

VICTORIA ARLEN – Face it. Embrace it. Defy it. Conquer it. These are the words that ESPN TV personality, Paralympic Gold Medalist and World Record Holder Victoria Arlen lives by every day. At the young age of 11, the lifelong swimmer and athlete fell ill with Transverse Myelitis, a rare viral disease that left her in a four-year long coma and without use of her legs for nearly 10 years. Unbeknownst to those around her at the time, Arlen could hear the conversations going on in her hospital room while she was in the coma as doctors expressed losing hope for any sort of improvement in her condition. However, with unwavering support from her family, her health improved tremendously.

In June of 2010, Arlen, determined to reach her childhood dream of competing in the Olympic Games, returned to the pool for the first time in years. In the spring of 2012, not only did she participate in four events at the London Paralympic Games, but she also took home one Gold and three Silver medals while also setting a world record in in the 100-meter free.

Following her successful and inspirational recovery, Arlen has since become an on-air TV personality with ESPN. Hosted by two-time Emmy-winning host Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews, “Dancing with the Stars” is the hit series in which celebrities perform choreographed dance routines which are judged by a panel of renowned ballroom experts.

Reigning Mirror Ball champ Rashad Jennings surprised the cast  by blending in with the “GMA” studio audience.

Jimmy’s Hall at The Abbey, Dublin

Jimmy’s Hall is a new stage adaptation of the critically acclaimed Ken Loach film. It tells the true story of Leitrim farmer Jimmy Gralton, the only Irishman deported from his own country. His crime was to build a dance hall where he encouraged the local community to learn, to argue and to dream, but above all to dance and have fun.  As the hall grew in popularity its free-spirited reputation brought it to the attention of the church and politicians who forced Jimmy to flee and the hall to close.

A decade later, at the height of the Depression, Jimmy returns from the US. The hall stands abandoned but as Jimmy sees the poverty and growing oppression in the village, the leader and activist within him is stirred. He decides to reopen the hall, and so takes on the established authorities of the church and the government.

The production marks Director of the Abbey Theatre Graham McLaren’s directorial debut at the theatre. Graham has been co-Director of the Abbey, along with Neil Murray, since September 2016. Graham’s productions of European classics have been seen in London’s West End, ancient Greek amphitheatres, black box studios and on the main stages of national theatres and major festivals across the world.

Graham McLaren said ‘It was important to me that this would be the first play I’d direct at the Abbey Theatre. Jimmy Gralton had a vision of Ireland as a fair and equal society, with people’s needs put in front of profit, at the heart of its culture. He wanted to create a space for people to come and break bread, to sing the old songs, to fall in love, argue about politics and to be a community. This act was such a threat to the people in power, that they vilified Jimmy. They burned down the hall and he was deported.

It is a great honour to play a part in telling Jimmy’s story. Our production is a celebration of his ideals – full of live music, singing and dancing. This is a story about the people of Leitrim, told for the people of Leitrim. As Ireland’s national theatre it is imperative for us, that they are the first to see it.’

With Richard Clements playing ‘Jimmy’, the talented cast includes Lisa Lambe, Bosco Hogan, Bríd Ní Neachtain, Ruth McGill, Donal O’Kelly and Muiris Crowley.

Jimmy’s Hall opened in Carrick-on-Shannon Community School on 22 July ahead of a three week run on the Abbey Stage. Booking is now open for all dates at //ENDS
Lucky Leitrim had the World premiere of Jimmy’s Hall in school hall in Leitrim. Very fitting location for the only Irish man officially deported from Ireland who just wanted a community hall for people to enjoy.

From 20 to 22 July 2017, the Abbey Theatre presented the world premiere of Jimmy’s Hall in Carrick-On-Shannon in Leitrim

Upper West and Bobbie Rich

Upper West presents a solo exhibition by Bobbie Rich on Sunday, July 30th, 2017. Bobbie Rich said she always knew she was supposed to create art. “Life is better when you embrace your gifts, but that doesn’t mean everything is easy. Although incredibly rewarding, being an artist isn’t exactly the most dependable career path. I am very proud to be a successful artist.”

Rich will enjoy her second solo exhibition at Santa Monica restaurant Upper West. “I’m very excited for the July 30th opening bash and to be spending much more time at such a delicious and beautiful restaurant!” The exhibition entitled “Wanderlust” will feature over twenty works. Rich went on to explain that during the summer her teaching schedule lightens up so she has more time to paint and work on her own personal projects. “It’s been really wonderful working on my balcony to finish up new works for Upper West. Several have sold, fresh off the easel, so I am really focused on completing new large works to adorn the restaurant.”

Rich is a consistent patron of the restaurant…”Upper West has the best Happy Hour around! A few of my favorite options are the Braised Brisket Tacos, the Crispy Glazed Chicken and the Thai Peanut Noodles.”

Rich often gives her time helping nonprofits. She recently did some live painting for Harvest Home’s Gala at the Fairmont Miramar. Her painting was live auctioned in the ballroom as the grand finale of the evening for $6000, with 100% donated to Harvest Home. Harvest Home transforms the lives of homeless pregnant women and their children by providing housing, support, and programs that equip women to become great mothers.

She was also commissioned by Herman Miller to create a mural. Since she works teaching for Family Art and Art Camp for Community Corp of Santa Monica and the Boys and Girls Club of America at several affordable housing locations, she was able to connect the furniture store with the CCSM and Boys and Girls Club. She personally collaborated with the kids and Herman Miller employees to create a beautiful under the sea mural at 430 Pico Boulevard in Santa Monica. “I designed and drew an enormous paint-by-number before the Herman Miller team and Boys and Girls Club kids arrived. All the paints were pre-mixed. Paint swatches were on the walls.  Everyone was assigned a color and away we went!”

When asked which artists inspire her these days, she replied, “My students are the emerging artists that most inspire me. I give them enough free reign to test and express their own ideas, while learning all the fundamentals and beyond. Each day is a surprise and I always soak in all the treasures they create.”

Meet Bobbie Rich at Upper West Restaurant (3321 Pico Blvd. in Santa Monica) on Sunday, July 30th from 4-7pm. www.BobbieRich.com
