Along with an upcoming EP, she also has a song with International pop superstar Christina Aguilera on her new album “Liberation” titled ‘Right Moves” featuring Keida. She was the perfect voice to speak on the 25th anniversary of Reggae Gold, out July 27th as she represents the new school of dancehall and Reggae Gold which has continued to be a brand that has supported new dancehall and reggae artists by giving them a platform for their music to reach a wide audience. Her breakthrough hit “Loodi” was featured on Reggae Gold 2017 and has continued to grow in YouTube views and streaming numbers since.
After her performance of “Loodi”, Jamaican born Safaree stated that Reggae Gold is an institution and asked the budding musician how it feels to be part of the 25thanniversary release. “It feels really good, I have to send a special big up to VP Records. Being that we know that reggae and dancehall music is originally from Jamaica and I was born and raised in Jamaica, I am just happy to see that its moving and growing globally each and every day.”
The show wouldn’t be complete without soca and carnival vibes and there was no one better to deliver that than Soca’s royal couple Bunji Garlin and Fay Ann Lyons. They performed their latest singles “Block the Road” by Fay Ann Lyons and the soca anthem “Big Bad Soca.” The performance included carnival dancers, featuring Blacka Di Danca and crew to keep the crowd moving and energized.
Following their performance, hosts Safaree and Amara La Negra asked them a series of questions. When asked about Fay Ann’s moniker ‘Aza Sefu’, she stated that the meaning is powerful sword and she is a leader and not a follower. “I believe women can be anything they wanna be.” Fay Ann also gave special props to Amara’s individuality and staple afro hairstyle as she said “ I watch Love and Hip hop and I support you 100 percent, Don’t try to be anyone else, look like you!”. In one of the more special moments of the show, the hosts invited Bunji and Fay Ann to lead a selfie of the entire audience that day. Performances by Konshens and Safaree concluded the show.

Sean Spicer to Develop Daytime Talk Show
Former White House press secretary Sean Spicer, whose six-month stint in the job working for President Trump ended last summer, is developing a syndicated daytime talk show from distributor Debmar-Mercury and Pilgrim Media Group. Tentatively titled “Sean Spicer’s Common Ground,” the potential daily talker will feature Spicer hosting “some of the most interesting and thoughtful public figures for a drink and some lite conversation at a local pub or cafe.”

According to the pitch…“The relaxed atmosphere is an ideal setting for Sean to get to know his guests as they discuss everything from the media to marriage. They might even tangle over the merits of making your bed or the value of a great point guard.”

“In this current environment, I think it’s important to have a platform where we can have civil, respectful, and informative discussions on the issues of the day,” said Spicer in a statement.

YouTube Orders Dark Comedy “On Becoming a God in Central Florida”
Kirsten Dunst will star in an original dark comedy for YouTube, “On Becoming a God in Central Florida” for YouTube that will be executive produced by George Clooney’s Smokehouse Productions and was originally in development for AMC. The series, written by co-creators Robert Funke and Matt Lutsky, will premiere in 2019 on YouTube Premium (the rebranded name from YouTube Red). YouTube has ordered 10 episodes.

Written by Robert Funke and Matt Lutsky, “On Becoming a God in Central Florida” is set near Orlando in the early 1990s. It centers on Krystal Gill (Dunst), a minimum-wage-earning water park employee who will eventually scheme her way up the ranks of Founders American Merchandise: the cultish, flag waving, multi-billion dollar pyramid scheme that drove her family to ruin.

Astrologer Linda Joyce Charts The Royal Wedding Day!

THT: How will their individual strengths serve them?

LINDA JOYCE: Harry and Meghan developed their strengths before they met. They both had a difficult challenging life. In many ways they are a mirror of each other. They have found someone who understands them and shares a mission. That’s powerful.

What Prince Harry and Meghan bring to the Monarchy is a connection with the common man. They, like Princess Diana, have heart. They are not overwhelmed with image and duty like Prince William and Kate. They are freer. They will shake up the monarchy and challenge old traditions. It will cause disharmony at times, in spite of how much they are valued and loved. But the monarchy had to change to accept Meghan and it will continue to do so.

Los Angeles, CA, April 20, 2018 (The Hollywood Times) By Pete Borreggine – The countdown is on for the May 19th royal wedding of American actress Meghan Markle to H.R.H. Prince Harry!

The press is abuzz with every detail imaginable from the dress to the food to the guest list, etc. But what fascinates me most about this wedding is the people getting married and the date they have chosen to do so.  I’m happy to report that I finally caught up with world famous astrologer and life coach, Linda Joyce to get her insight about Meghan Markle and H.R.H. Prince Harry’s wedding day.

Without further ado, here’s what the very gracious Linda Joyce had to say:

THT: Are Meghan and Prince Harry a good match?

LINDA JOYCE: Yes. The best part of this up-coming wedding is that both these two-young people have had a difficult time in life. Harry lived a privileged life, but he couldn’t live it his way – he had to conform. For a Virgo that’s a very difficult thing. Part of being a Virgo is stretching the boundaries, of feeling free to be both naughty and nice. There is no bigger tragedy for a child than to lose its mother, particularly when she is very loving and nurturing. When she makes you feel that you’re the center of her world. In his own words he was lost for twenty years. And when he found love, the women he had chosen couldn’t handle his life or the paparazzi. Only when he found his purpose by trying to fulfill his mothers’ mission, by taking on his mother’s charities – that’s when he found himself. Soon after that he met Meghan. So, timing plays a big part of this union.

Meghan had her own struggles as a bi-racial woman, who looked white but had a black mother. She loved both her parents. She was bullied, but she was loved. That’s a powerful force. It helped her develop a need to help others, for a sense of justice and fairness. She is a champion of her own causes and has been involved in several before she met Harry. She was a global ambassador for World Vision and an advocate for UN Women. She used her website, to not just talk about fashion but to include pieces on self-empowerment. The meeting of Harry and Meghan was the alignment of their struggle for self-knowledge. They had both arrived at who they were, and that journey included giving back, in fact it was their mission and a major way they connected. These were two souls who had finally found themselves and now share a common purpose. That’s powerful.

THT: What does the Wedding Chart reveal?

LINDA JOYCE: The birth of the marriage is the time of the wedding ceremony and an exact chart would be when the couple is pronounced husband and wife. Then it becomes like the birth of anything. You read it as an entity with a destiny and challenges as well as talents. The most ancient form of astrology is Horary astrology and electional astrology – you pick a time to initiate an event. Kings used to use it to know when to declare war so that they would have an advantage.

THT: How are Meghan and Harry placed in the wedding chart?

LINDA JOYCE: Harry is represented by the first house which is Virgo. He is a Virgo and Virgo ‘is’ the sign of service as well as power. However, when it’s used in a higher consciousness way, then that power comes from above, not from the need to control everyone and everything around you. Virgo is ruled by Mercury and Mercury is in the 9th house. This is the house of royalty and rulers. The Guru. He is elevated to a high position. And he will be in opposition to his family. (Mercury is opposite Jupiter in the 4th house of his family). Mercury is also at a critical degree. This marriage may put him at odds with his role as Royal.

Meghan is ruled by the 7th house which is Pisces in the wedding chart. It is in Grand Trine, that water grand trine. She will be loved by the public and idealized. That’s what Neptune does; it raises someone up to an ideal, like Princess Diana. However, there will be such demands that she be perfect. However, she is a strong woman.

THT: What details of this marriage can you share?

LINDA JOYCE: The couples mission is a desire to change the world, to make a difference and they’re both very committed to it. They have already started their journey of service by asking for donations to their chosen charities instead of gifts.

The charities they have chosen are not the most prestigious, but they need the help. Chiva: works with young people living with H.I.V.; Myna Mahila Foundation in India: empowering women and young girls in Mumbai’s slums; Scotty’s Little Soldiers: a charity to help children with parents in the Armed Forces; Street Games: A national sports charity helping young people in the U.K.’s most disadvantaged areas; Surfers Against Sewage: A Marine conservation and campaigning charity; Wilderness Foundation U.K: a social-welfare organization transforming lives using nature.

Travel is strongly accepted in the wedding chart. The 9th house of travel is ruled by Aries – the sign of vision and action. They will do a lot of traveling for their work and their causes.

The Sun is in Taurus and in their 10th house, so of course the world will be watching.

Pluto in Capricorn makes a Trine to the Sun – there is a lot of power and importance behind this union. And with Scorpio ruling the 4th house of husband’s family, it indicates that they have a lot of power. The Grand Trine from Jupiter in Scorpio to Neptune and the Moon shows that they are all in harmony over the marriage.

Their social life will be a part of their mission. This is a couple committed to a cause. Emotions are strong, flowing from the public and between each other. The 6th house of service is ruled by Aquarius which is the humanitarian sign. So, the theme is repeated. They will have very close friends who love them and protect them. Meghan will and has already transformed Harry’s life. Of course, he has changed hers forever.

THT: How many children do you believe they’ll have?

LINDA JOYCE: Two for sure and a possible third. One will be rebellious like Harry. A bit difficult to pull in and keep to the rules. Capricorn is a strong energy and this sign rules the 5th house of children. The other child will be serious and responsible, not unlike Harry and his brother William.

THT: What challenges may arise with Venus at a critical degree?

LINDA JOYCE: Venus rules love and happiness, it also rules how the world sees them in the wedding chart and communication. So, they will be attacked and followed – to a critical degree. Their lives will be difficult and dangerous in that way. Communication between them is essential, if they don’t keep that flowing then the relationship could be in trouble. But I do believe they will. They will bond closer together the more the outside world pursues them. There could be issues with his brother. The 3rd house is not only communication but siblings. Every great love story has a tragedy, I hope it’s a minor one.

THT: What is the significance of a Grand Trine in Water?

LINDA JOYCE: Water rules emotions and spirituality. This is very spiritual. Feelings are strong between each other and between them and the world. They will be loved. They will make a difference in the world. The world will love them. And because they’re a couple it will be even greater than what his mother went through.

THT: Does Princess Diana have any influence on this couple, aside from being Harry’s mother?

LINDA JOYCE: I found myself wondering how Princess Diana’s chart would connect to Meghan’s, and I discovered many things, but the most amazing was the connection both women had to a sense of destiny and purpose. Every twenty years Jupiter and Saturn conjoin, and when they do, it ignites in a willing soul, a desire to initiate revolutionary social change. It was present when Diana was born (1961) and when Meghan was born twenty years later (1981). Add to the fact that Diana married Prince Charles in 1981 placing the Jupiter\Saturn conjunction in their marriage chart. It tells me that Princess Diana’s purpose was ignited when she married. Now Meghan will pick up the torch with Harry and carry it forward.

I think the royal couple will be a great example of how to live and love a life of purpose. They will be globally loved, criticized and adored. I will pray for their safety, their strength and their ability to carry out their destiny. They were meant to be together. They have done the impossible, thanks to Diana. A bi-racial woman is marrying the prince. It’s the future, away from separatism toward acceptance and unity. Unfortunately, that never happens without a struggle.

THT: Why is having emotional strength important?

LINDA JOYCE: It’s what gets us through the difficulties. His mother was never stopped because she had emotional strength and the support of the public. When you feel you’re doing the right thing you keep going. Emotions are what changes the world.

NOTE: That ended our interview about Meghan and Harry’s wedding, but I found myself wanting to know more about Linda herself and how she came to her calling. So I asked her; stay tuned for that part of this story – COMING SOON!

Thank you, Linda for your wonderful insight. If you’d like to know more about Linda Joyce as a person, astrologer and life-coach right now, please feel free to visit her website:

The Upper West Restaurant Hosts “Imagination: Art that Speaks to You” – An Opening Reception for Artist Maureen Tepedino on April 22

Los Angeles, CA – April 18, 2018 (The Hollywood Times) – By Henry K. Long – The Upper West hosts an opening reception for artist Maureen Tepedino on Sunday April 22nd, 2018, from 4-7pm. The artist will be in attendance. A fan of the restaurant, Tepedino said she is looking forward to seeing her work exhibited on the walls of the upscale restaurant. “I was first introduced to Upper West Restaurant last fall, by a dear friend and was immediately impressed with the ambiance, food and service.”

Tepedino’s love of art started when she was just seven years old. Inspired by her surroundings (Jamaica, W.I), she painted vibrant sunsets and serene subjects. Maureen’s connection to art led her to becoming an interior designer. After studying at Interior Design and Art, and Santa Monica City College, she implemented her love of color into her projects with an exceptional flair. Tepedino also has a background in fashion. For over twenty years, she owned and operated Maureen’s on Main Street, a successful fashion and clothing boutique in Santa Monica.

Like most artists Tepedino visits museums to find inspiration. Vincent Van Gough, and Jackson Pollock are at the top of her list, but she was recently moved by some emerging artists. “I was recently exposed to a body of work by a Local School in the Downtown area and felt that the students had great potential to become household names in the Art Industry.”

As an artist she is constantly inspired by her daily life. She describes the impetus to creating one of her works in the show…“Coming from a large family, when I painted Family Gathering, I had so many wonderful memories of all the times we were together as a family, e.g. around the dining table sharing meals, taking walks, and on Sundays where my parents would take us to the Beach and after, my Dad would show us the progress of the Buildings he was working on!”

Another painting entitled The Fisherman was inspired by her childhood. “While living in Toronto, CA as a teenager, I went fishing many times and later enjoyed taking my two sons along for the experience. Painting “The Fisherman” brought back many happy memories.”

Her paintings are sold nationally by interior designers, art consultants, architects and contractors for high-end residential and corporate projects. She also specializes in corporate art by creating original pieces designed for Commercial spaces.”

The opening artist reception for “Imagination: Art that Speaks to You” will be held on April 22nd, from 4:00-7:00pm. The Upper West Restaurant is located at 3321 Pico Boulevard, Santa Monica 90405; 4:00pm – 7:00 pm.

Visit Maureen’s website for additional information.

Andre Emery Set to Debut New Collection at Style Fashion Week in Palm Springs

Los Angeles,CA, By Carley Schumann,(The Hollywood Times)04/01/2018 – This weekend, Style Fashion Week met up with celebrity designer, Andre Emery to discuss his upcoming collection debut at Style Fashion Week, Palm Springs. Style Fashion Week is a global producer of high-profile fashion, music and art events. It provides a turn key platform for established, emerging and international designers, artists and musicians to display their work in a professional environment, growing their business and generating revenue. See below for sneak-peaks of the collection and a full interview with Andre about his beginnings as a designer and insights on his career as he continues to build his empire.

As we made our way into Andre’s studio in DTLA, we were greeted by a group of designers wrapping up a shoot in the studio. The Bronx-born designer has transformed his home into a live-in studio, where artists, designers, and creatives can rent space to set up shop and crank out their work—making his home a space constantly buzzing with creative energy.

Throughout his time as a designer, Andre has dressed the likes of Lana Del Ray, Rhianna, Slick Woods, Chris Brown, Paris Hilton and other notable celebrities. Emery made his first runway debut during Style Fashion Week, Los Angeles in October of 2017. He then brought his designs to the Style Fashion Week stage during New York Fashion Week in February of 2018. He plans to introduce menswear to his collection in Palm Springs this April.
We began by asking the most obvious of first-questions: When did it all begin?
Andre Emery’s interest in fashion began in high school when he started customizing outfits by cutting graphics from scrap clothing and gluing them onto his own garments. “I never wanted to sew.” What started as a creative hobby gained recognition from his peers, but it wasn’t until a few years later that he thought to pursue fashion a bit further. On a whim, he sent in an online application to the Art Institute of California—when he was called within minutes he realized that it was time to take his design career to the next level and made the move to Los Angeles. Pursuing a career in design was an uncharted path for Andre, who grew up in a family of “nine-to-five” workers—while his family didn’t fully understand the magnitude of his career choice initially, they have remained supportive.

He described much of his career as serendipitous, the details falling into place seamlessly over time. In college, it was his intention to design menswear but came to find that the menswear courses had been cancelled for the semester. He took it as a sign and dove into womenswear. He immersed himself in an entirely new world, learning the “language” of fashion design—understanding the female form, the ways that garments drape and move and most importantly, how the woman wearing them feels. In school, he particularly enjoyed studying the history of fashion declaring, ”What people don’t realize, is that it’s all a cycle.”

His love of history is not limited to the history of fashion. Much of his collection inspiration is drawn from classic films—the production, the actors, the characters and the stories. We could see the passion in his eyes as he discussed his admiration of classic films and their ability to bring light to specific eras, ideas, and messages. It is his goal to do the same through his garment design. He is not simply designer, but a director.

Andre Emery designs for the women in power, the women who travel, the women with an undeniable sex appeal, but who carry it with an air of grace that cannot go unnoticed. He creates garments for the women with a story and with each stitch, he writes that story.

We look forward to Andre’s next collection debut on April 6th at the Palm Springs Air Museum.

Tower Records Founder Russ Solomon R.I.P.

All good things must come to a past and while watching the Academy Awards with a drink of whiskey, the founding father of Tower Records had a massive heart attack and died. Another historic day of when the music died again for many of us Tower Records employees and fans of Russ Solomon. I never met Russ but I worked for him at the Costa Mesa location of Tower Records in a former skating rink at the narrow strange plot of land by a Del Taco by 17th Street and Newport Blvd. en route to the Balboa Peninsula. It was a store where one could be themselves, tattoos and all. One time a customer said to me, ‘where is your tattoo? I replied, ‘Not where you can see it’ To which he exclaimed, ‘Everyday is Halloween at Tower’. Actually everyday was Record Store day at Tower.

I have met and worked with so many ex music store friends who personally knew Russ as they were music buyers for labels and bands or former Tower employees.. I found out on Facebook today about Russ Solomon’s passing by my former boss from my Super D music distribution company, Lauren Watt, who announced her sadness in a post about his death. This man’s love of music gave so many music lovers a place to work and a place for music fans to get music. Yet it was so much more. Tower Records was a community center of sorts. One could get tickets for music and sport events through Ticketmaster at the Tower locations. We did Saturday morning on sales at 9am for just released concerts. It was a rite of passage to be in a cue with a coveted wristband to get the best spot in line for your favorite band’s upcoming show that could sell out in minutes. The Tower Records staff was all about customer service and we knew how to expedite the lines to quickly get as many people tickets as possible.

Russ grew an empire from simple origins of selling some records in a display at a Sacramento pharmacy. Ironically when the record store bankruptcy happened in 2006 right before Christmas, the Great American Group was buying up the stores not to preserve them but to obtain properties for future Walgreens Pharmacy locations. It must have been hard for Russ to see his dream diminish but oh what a wonderful journey it had spun.

Colin Hanks made a high fidelity spin of the early Tower Records origins with his rockumentary movie All Things Must Pass where the famous Sunset Strip Tower Records was resurrected in its glory for an after party for the film screening. I remember that location so well when I lived in North Hollywood while married to a bassist and he played the clubs on the strip. If there was a parking space available in the tiny lot, one had to stop and go in the record store. It is like seeing a short line at the Donut Man in Glendora, or a short line at In N Out Burger, you gotta stop. Being at the Sunset Store was a very crowded shop of rows and rows of boxes of the latest releases. One couldn’t leave empty handed. All these memories become of one dreamer who dared. Thank you Russ. Please create good vibrations in Rock N Roll Heaven by opening up a music shop of sorts. The music tribe is waiting for you with open arms. A music angel is home to rest.

The Oscars – Noms, Nods & Odds

By Susan Bredau, THT Flacker (The Hollywood Times) 2/23/2018 – When I was a kid, I spent most of my Saturdays at the movies.  These magical afternoons consisted of coming attractions, a cartoon, and 2 movies! The double-feature ruled. The same “coming attractions”, now known as trailers, were played regardless of the audience in the theater, and there was no rating system to protect us from unsavory subject matter.

When I think about this year’s Oscar nominees for Best Picture, I can only imagine being able to see a double feature of “Darkest Hour” and “Dunkirk” on the big screen, if only for the sake of days gone by.

I have a good feeling about the 90th Academy Awards® Show this year. Jimmy Kimmel returns as host and three-time Oscar-nominated Michael De Luca and Emmy®-nominated producer Jennifer Todd, who produced the Oscars last year return to helm this year’s production, which airs LIVE on Sunday, March 4th on ABC.

You can replay Kimmel’s monologue about the Oscar nominations which aired on Late Night with Jimmy Kimmel on nomination day – Here’s the clip!

I’m happy to see the diversity among the nominees this year, which was conspicuously absent in the 2017 slate. I will be disappointed if the Oscar Red Carpet caters to and succumbs to a cause marketing platform, as we’ve seen with some other award shows this year.

The Oscar’s Nominee Luncheon, the annual celebratory mixer for the nominees in all categories was held February 5 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills. 90th Oscar's Luncheon Class Photo

A complete list of nominees is available at, along with trailers and an Oscar Challenge.

Celebrating the Oscars is still a time-honored Hollywood tradition, complete with countless private viewing parties and Oscar pools to make it interesting. Have you picked your favorites yet? Do you like playing long shots, hunches, or do you go with the odds-on favorites? Yes, the experts have weighed in on the race for this year’s golden statues. Find out who has the odds in their favor!

The Incredible Story of Sudan, the Last Male Northern White Rhinoceros, Feb. 21st

Make sure not to miss tonight’s episode. I would recommend recording it as well so that you can watch it a few times and share it with your friends.

Tell your family and friends to tune into this show. I have seen it and it will make your heart-break and definitely want to do something to make a difference for our wildlife.

Nature: The Last Rhino

Premieres Wednesday, February 21 at 8 p.m. EST on PBS (check local listings)

Nature: The Last Rhino introduces viewers to Sudan, the very last male Northern White Rhinoceros. His harrowing journey is told through the international cast of characters who have been involved in Sudan’s life, from when he was snatched as a calf from his mother’s side in war-torn Central Africa, to his captivity as a prized exhibit in a cold, concrete zoo behind the Iron Curtain while poaching devastated his kind to extinction back home. Now 43 years old and half-blind, Sudan is living out his days under the 24-hour watch of an armed guard, on a protective sanctuary in Kenya. Meanwhile, a team of scientists and experts led by Professor Thomas Hildebrandt from the Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research turn to technology in a race against time to save this majestic rhino subspecies whose origins date back at least five million years. One hour.

Sudan was first captured in February 1975 from a South Sudan game reserve and sent 7,000 miles to a remote zoo in the former Czechoslovakia. He is one of only three Northern White Rhinos left on the planet, and the only remaining male.

Sudan now lives in Ol Pejeta conservancy in Kenya with the world’s only two female Northern White Rhinos. He’s achieved celebrity status around the world with those who have taken up the cause of saving these magnificent creatures.

The Hollywood Times spoke with Fred Kaufman, executive producer and Janet Hess, Nature Series Editor.

The Hollywood Times (THT): “How did this story come across your desk?”

Fred Kaufman (FK): It was a BBC Production and they did a 90-minute documentary about the entire situation and we saw it as an incredible story. Sudan as a character, how many animals are guarded 24/7 and he is the last of his kind and he has his own Facebook page.  In a macabre short of way, he is a tourist attraction and when you have three individuals of a species, that species will not survive.  Kind of celebration in a way. There are so many emotional threads going through the film. It’s a historical document, it’s cutting edge science, it’s poignant so in a simplistic producers mind, it makes for good television and keys people into what is going on when you do get to such a small number of species remaining.”

THT: “How do you feel about Sudan being like a tourist attraction now that he is the last of his kind?”

Janet Hess (JH): “I think one of the strengths of the program is that it presents that conundrum, that something become more valuable when its’ rare.  Christian poaching has made the horn more valuable and in this case the experience of being in the presence of an animal like this, when there is only one male left on the planet.  Now it’s a premium experience and that’s the problem we face, it’s a story of extinction.  A shrinking population that is losing its chance to breed and now each individual becomes more valuable.  We have to face up somehow that we have caused this to happen.”

FK: “We never really appreciate anything until it’s gone or the threat of losing it.  This is a particular celebrity rhino with a name and a story and people are drawn to celebrities whether it is human or otherwise, so that is what you have.”

THT: “Sudan was captured at a young age and has survived many years in captivity, do you believe that is why he has lived so long since he was not in the wild?”

JH: “His capture is not what drove the species to this point.  There was a flourish of population there, its been poaching, that is the source of the problem.”

FK: “Well animals in general live longer in captivity, because they are cared for, they are fed regularly, their stress level is down and any sort of medical issue are treated.  But they don’t reproduce successfully in captivity and that is a good part of this story as well.”

THT: “What did you learn from directing and producing this story?”

JH: “I think these animals lives are so much more complex than we can imagine. Their biology is so complex, that we hope for a simple solution will take them to a zoo a breed them. There are lots of animals that this did not work out for.  The male rhinos need to fight to hold their territory and that is what brings them into breeding conditions.  We can’t generate that in a zoo.  Discovering that too late in this situation and now hoping that technology as a last step can perform some type of miracle.”

FK: This whole thing stems from the desire of their horn, which is nothing more than your fingernails are made of.  It kind of defies comprehension that it’s not some type of gem stone that it has no value.

THT: “What do you think we can learn from this special?”

FK: “It’s rare that we have such an extensive biography of a particular animal.  That hasn’t been studied in science by Jane Goodall or someone else, so just part on how Sudan was captured in Africa at a time when there were multitudes of these animals and take to a safari park and brought back to Africa. The biography of this particular individual is really noteworthy. If you want to get a sense at all, it also reflects the history of our thinking and relationship with these animals, which have come a long way.  I never feel qualified to even say, people get different things out of films and they see different meanings based on their own background, preferences and emotions, so there is a lot to see here from the science, to the biographical information about this one individual, as well as the poignancy of an animal that will leave us at one point.  The relationship it has with his keeper, the fact that it is guarded 24 hours a day, the work people are doing to try to save this species which is probably going to be hopeless.  Hopefully something good will happen that will benefit us in other ways.”

JH: “This entire decline and race to extinction has happened in a time period of one rhinos life.  One individual live encompasses this entire story of having plenty of habitat and good herd size and reproductive success down to the fact that they will be going into extinction.  It’s a cautionary tale as we look around, even the biggest animals, like the elephant, the lions are in trouble, the giraffe are in trouble and we have to be shaken out of our complacency, that these things can happen so quickly and take such a turn, and that we can’t solve the problem.  It is such a stunning thing to think of, that this is happening in the span of one rhinos life.”

FK: “The younger generation in Asia being raised with the idea of conservation much more in front of them.  Much more promoted than any other time.  The new generation needs to recognize that the ivory and rhino horns, no need for it!  Really uncool to have it.  It’s a very long-term generational change and view about these animals and conservation and value of having them there for children to see and all of us to appreciate.”

The White Rhinoceros, found only in Africa, has two genetically distinct subspecies – the Northern White Rhino and the Southern White Rhino. The White Rhino is the largest land mammal after the elephant and the only rhino to have a square, wide upper lip, which helps it graze.

Ceratotherium simum cottoni, or the Northern White Rhino, once roamed widely across the grasslands and savannas of Africa, but is now completely extinct in the wild due to extreme poaching.

The Southern White Rhino, or Ceratotherium simum simum, has successfully been brought back from the brink of extinction through careful protection and management. They are now classified as near endangered.

A troop of security officers, natives of the Bushland, protect the reservation from potential poachers. “To protect these animals, you have to risk your life,” says one of the officers. They have had to stop several poaching attempts this year.

Since the three living Northern White Rhinos are unable to produce more children the natural way, in vitro fertilization (IVF) is the only viable solution. To test this process, a group of scientists sedate Carla, a Southern White Rhinoceros, to extract her eggs. The extraction is very difficult and precise, allowing no room for error.

Follow the story of Sudan, the last male Northern White Rhinoceros. His journey as the last of his kind is given a glimmer of hope from scientists and animal experts who turn to technology to save the Northern White Rhino before it dies out forever.

Meet Sudan, the last male Northern White Rhino, as experts attempt to save his kind from extinction.

PALM SPRINGS, CA – For nearly three decades the world’s largest girl party/music festival, also known as The Dinah, has been turning the city of Palm Springs into the ultimate entertainment hub, offering an epic slate of Top Ten Billboard headliners and  A-list celebrities.

But what makes The Dinah one of the most celebrated and anticipated festivals of the Palm Springs and the Coachella valley region is its remarkable ability to identify and book the best emerging female artists in the world. They are truly the next big-thing, and they go on to become future headliners.

As a MUST DO venue that has proven to be the catalyst propelling new young talent to superstar status, The Dinah was a logical choice for music’s new “IT” girl Snow Tha Product.

Snow Tha Product, an MTV VMA award winning Latina lyricist and emcee with Hip-Hop, Pop and R&B sensibilities, is exactly the rapper we need right now.

The SoCal native, who records in both English and Spanish, has been involved in some pretty high-profile music collaborations working with the likes of Ty Dolla $ign.

Born Claudia Alexandra Madriz Meza, the outspoken daughter of undocumented immigrants, was also featured on Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “Immigrants (We Get the Job Done)” from the Hamilton Mixtape.

A well known artist and influencer in the social media world with over 109 million views on YouTube, 2.4 million fans on Facebook, 586k fans on Instagram, the Atlantic Records artist has a legion of loyal fans awaiting her new releases. When not working on music, she’s building up her acting credits, which includes a recurring role on USA Network’s Queen of the South as gang leader Lil’ Traviesa.

She has been recognized and respected throughout the hip-hop industry for carving her own lane. Her reputation as a spitfire performer has her nonstop energy shows selling out from the West to East Coast.

Snow Tha Product hopes to one day become a role model for future generations and a voice for all Latinos.

“I’m so excited to feature Snow Tha Product on our 2018 Dinah Line up.  I believe this is the last time people will see this artist in a more intimate venue as she is going to blow up in 2018.  She also brings such a feel-good vibe to the event, singing about living life on our own terms.  I applaud female artists who are making it happen for themselves especially in a male-dominated industry,“ says Mariah Hanson, founder and producer of Club Skirts Dinah Shore Weekend.

Making a whole lot of noise, Snow Tha Product is commanding the spotlight, and has everyone eagerly waiting to see what’s next at The Dinah.

NAMM RECAP – BAE Audio and UK Sound

Audio and UK Sound Roll Into NAMM 2018 with Several New Products

BAE 73L EQ, Tonestack pedal and UK Sound’s FET compressor /1073 product line are among new product entries — in addition to Recently Launched BAE R53 and PDIS

Anaheim, CA – January 17, 2018 – BAE Audio [Booth 15917, Anaheim Convention Center], a manufacturer of premium analog hardware built to vintage specifications, had their debut of two exciting new product at this year’s NAMM show: the 73L 500 series EQ and the Tonestack guitar pedal. Also on view was the recently launched R53 horizontal 500 series rack and PDIS stereo direct injection box. The range of BAE products will be joined by offerings from BAE Audio subsidiary UK Sound, including products based on classic FET compressors and the 1073 preamp and EQ.

“We’ve got quite a lot of new gear to show off at NAMM this year, including many new products from UK Sound — our new subsidiary that offers premium analog gear at an affordable price,” says BAE Audio and UK Sound CEO Mark Loughman. “We’re maintaining our commitment to high quality components and classic designs with all of our recently launched and upcoming BAE Audio products, as UK Sound advances its mission to provide studio-quality products at an accessible price point with several new product entries.”

Rack ’em up with BAE Audio

BAE Audio showcased a brand new EQ for the 500 series: the 73L. This versatile and musical sound-shaping hardware borrows the design of the EQ section of the classic 1073 console preamp and EQ and fits it into a single lunchbox rackspace. The 73L is also the perfect complement to the recently launched R53 three-space horizontal rack, also on view at the BAE booth.

Following the success of its first guitar pedal, the Hot Fuzz, BAE Audio will debut its next offering for vintage stompbox enthusiasts at NAMM 2018: the Tonestack. This brand new dual-stomp pedal is based on classic a ‘70s silicon fuzz circuit known for its crisp and buzzy overdrive, recognizable from many well-known records of the period. It features unique tone controls for improved tweakability.

UK Sound introduced its first product, the 1173 preamp and compressor, at last year’s NAMM show. This year’s convention showcased with several new products that round out its line of quality, cost-effective studio gear. The 176 and 276 compressors are UK Sound’s new single and dual-channel FET compressors, making a high-quality version of this studio staple more accessible than ever.

Mirroring its parent company’s ability to translate classic designs to formats that meet every user’s needs, UK Sound will introduce a line of preamps and equalizers based on the classic 1073 preamp and equalizer. These include a flagship rack version of the preamp and EQ, as well as single and dual-channel standalone and 500 series iterations of the preamplifier section alone.

Consumer Beware – fraud never is really on holiday

2017 is winding down and a lot of people are looking at the new year for renewed hope to reinvent themselves and their businesses. It is a time to clear up neglected issues to start fresh with a new year. Yet what lurks behind seemingly trusting smiling ads  and pitches for coaching careers, book publishing packages, expensive retreats and more are just society’s latest version of expensive lessons and regret for many vulnerable people duped out of their hard earned money to pay for unrealistic setups.

Local TV channels welcome consumers to report their issues for them to expose the fraud and deceit. Unfortunately geniune programs suffer from the misfits of those who prey on the emotional purchases of the new career seekers. This past year a chain of beauty schools misused college tuition funds thus closing up all their schools leaving beauty school clients without their accomplished careers.

It is the Buyer Beware syndrome. With social media, potential clients get lured into being ‘friends’ with the product group. Nowadays with Live recordings, company CEOs are streaming personal client personal stories as if they were having a confidential beer poolside with coherts.

Independent business owners are seeking services in the new landscape of technology and websites yet getting delays and unfullfilled promises.

TheHollywoodTimes is looking to close out another year in anticipation of a new year with more investigative stories. We welcome more writers and stories to show the glory and the grime along the virtual Hollywood Blvd. in the world. Lets be good humans no matter what time of the year it is. Integrity doesn’t take a holiday so be on your guard and watch your wallet.

Ralphie is pursued by a girl in his class.

Ralphie is pursued by the class bully. And, most famously, Ralphie sets off on a campaign to acquire his most-desired Christmas present, a Red Ryder BB air rifle, only to be warned repeatedly, “You’ll put your eye out, kid.”

The Hollywood Times was in the audience for this past Saturday night’s performance.  Get you tickets today because this play is worth the price of admission. It is full of laughter, wonderful acting, that brings the famous characters to life, right in front of your eyes.  The play is well-written, the stage makes you feel like you are right in the living room, kitchen and Ralphie’s bedroom.  The famous rifle, a Red Ryder Carbine Action 200-shot Range Model air rifle with a compass in the stock and “this thing which tells time” just can’t be said enough.  I can’t wait to see it again.
